Ian is a performer, composer, and music educator with over 15 years experience in the classroom teaching at all age levels. He holds an undergraduate degree in education and percussion performance from Missouri Western State University and a Master of Music in performance from the University of Missouri in Columbia. The years at university had him focusing on marimba and percussion ensemble performance (hence the nickname “Marimbanator”)

In addition to his own education programs Ian has worked as a composer and arranger for many programs throughout the area writing original music for marching shows and other media. He has also worked as a percussion clinician and educator.

Throughout his career he has been involved in writing drums on various side projects with his brother “Leif Derrickson” in their early band “Eden” and more recently “Thou Fount”.

For the last decade Ian has played drums in a southwest Missouri cover band “80@Out” and has recently been playing keyboards and synthesizers in a newly formed group “Analog Rewind”.
